US Renewable Energy Statistics

US Renewable Energy Statistics

Renewable standards portfolios are policies written and implemented to increase electricity generation from renewable resources.  These renewable resources include wind, solar energy, geothermal energy, and biomass fuel. Many States in the US have proprietary renewable portfolio standards and currently there is no national standard in place. Studies show that states with their own portfolios for this purpose tend to use more energy from renewable resources than states that do not implement porfolios.

Where does America stand on the use of renewable resources for energy consumption?  In recent years, Americans used renewable energy sources to meet approximately 8% of its total energy needs and 10% of the total U.S. electricity output in 2009. Consumption of electricity by its producers was about 53% of total U.S. renewable energy in 2009.

Have a look at the following infographic for more detailed information.  We’ve come a long way, certainly, but there is far to go before America is close to acceptable levels of clean energy.
